Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyan in Legal Soup
Bollywood is quite famous for flouting the rules and inviting trouble. Many Bollywood celebs have found themselves entrapped in legal issues time and again for whatever reasons but have managed to tackle them with their influential prowess. Some movies too have invited legal notice/action and the latest to join the bandwagon is Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyan.
Soon after the shoot of this romantic drama began in the picturesque setting of Sonmarg, the locals started objecting when the crew took their unit to Thajiwas glacier, which is a prohibited area. Following this, the J&K Tourism Board issued a notice to the makers of the film and demanded to know how they managed to reach the ecologically sensitive zone. Subsequent to the J&K High Court’s order, Sonmarg Development Authority had put a ban on the vehicle movement in the zone.
A local environmentalist, Faiz Bakshi has raised a PIL in the matter alleging the flouting of rules. The hearing of the case is scheduled for May 9. He suspects the involvement of a higher authority as the property is otherwise gated and prohibits entry of vehicles. “This is a lapse on the part of the local administration. There are five departments required [in granting permission] — the District Magistrate, Department of Tourism, Sonmarg Development Authority, Department of Wildlife Protection in Kashmir, and the cops. I won’t say the filmmaker is not to be blamed, but the unit couldn’t have done it by themselves,” says Bakshi.
Source says otherwise
A spokesperson from the Colour Yellow Productions team denied any allegations stating that they have all the permission from the Department of Wildlife Protection as well as the Department of Tourism in Kashmir. He added, “We were sensitive about shooting there, and followed all the terms and conditions put forward to be allowed to shoot there.”
