Happening Hindi of Sara Ali Khan

Happening Hindi of Sara Ali Khan

English, in India categorically symbolizes profuse opulence of the sophisticated class, it does so, more popularly in ‘Hindi Film Industry’, where it’s spoken by majority of people. It’s not even a news to say that this language, very disgracefully creates a divide amongst actors and common people, because it clearly brings with it the motif of belonging to a particular privileged social class.

It’s very unfortunate to discern this reality because as per common Indian mindset English still brackets those 20 percent of its speakers in a so-called elite class. In Bollywood, this figure ironically rises to 98 percent where one hardly gets to see stars using Hindi as a medium of expression other than their performances on silver screen. It’s such a disgraceful observation that ‘Hindi Film Industry’ actually avoids speaking Hindi and takes pride in anything that is English. In this connection what would be more appropriate than the name Bollywood itself, which clearly reveals the industry’s love with this glorious English title which is so obviously a copied version, much in tune with Hollywood.

Amidst such scintillating pseudo scenario, it comes as a pleasant surprise to hear the elite Sara Ali Khan speaking chaste Hindi without any hitch and glitch in her recent interviews. Her eloquence with the language with an ease and familiarity is making everyone go gaga over her articulations on social sites. The way she is being praised for the naturalness of her expressions is commendable. It can be debatable that why should she not speak good Hindi? and also that why her comfort level with Hindi should be a news? If such questions make sense then we should often get to see women in this glamour industry speaking like her. But we hardly have any names. Some after being in the industry for more than 15 years, still struggle with the language; whereas other actresses struggle to avoid Hindi and consciously speak the international language to make themselves more sensible. Chat shows clearly reveal a monotonous pattern in which these actors try to sound cool by exhibiting their English Mannerism and English humour.

Contrary to the Comedy of Manners’ Sara Ali Khan appears astonishingly charming with her effortless Hindi.  In spite of hailing from the Pataudi Khandan and being the daughter of much anglicized Saif Ali Khan, her familiarity with the language breaks people’s notion of her being rich and snob. Her eloquence works for her as it accentuates her appeal of being a genuine person, which was perhaps not expected of her by movie buffs. Hence, before surprising people with her debutant acting skills in her movie Kedarnath, she has already made people fall in love with her the right combination of her pleasing persona and happening Hindi. It’s amusing to note that in India, speaking good Hindi can create so much sensation and good environment which is so overwhelming. It’s more so, when it comes from the new generation of budding actors who clearly understand the value of speaking the language of common people with perfect diction, pauses, and phrases to get acknowledged and understood.

Other than Sara, Janhvi Kapoor has also shown the ability to communicate with media in good Hindi. Sara Ali Khan might have trained herself to speak chaste Hindi to have a better connect with the Hindi speaking audiences. Regardless of the fact, having graduated from Columbia University, choosing to embrace Hindi with no hitch is pretty praiseworthy that absolutely makes her well prepared to persist in the Hindi Film industry for a long long time
