Javed Akhtar talks about banning Indian content in Pakistan:
We all know of the time there was a surgical strike in India and all the actors, singers, lyricists from Pakistan were sent back to their country – there was a complete ban. Veteran screenwriter, poet, lyricist Javed Akhtar is of the opinion that art shouldn’t be restricted anywhere – even in the name of culture, religion or any other excuse likewise. He says that this is completely an anomaly if done in any country – be it Pakistan or India.
It was a media interaction when the poet opened up about this issue. The recent controversy that happened over Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saquib Nisar, where the Supreme court has ruled that no Indian content will be shown on Pakistani TV, as it supposedly damages their culture.
Akhtar’s opinion on it:
Akhtar is a very liberal person, and he said that all of this is completely unethical, that in the name od culture damage, they are preventing art and its like forms to be shown to other people. He talks of exchange of programs – so that both countries can watch the best of both cultures. Akhtar believes that the pathway of art should never be restricted. He is pretty upset that Ghulam Ali can’t come to India and Lata and Asha can’t go to Pakistan – so these are trivial fights that should be avoided.
Akhtar has spoken like a true human being!
