Pari to be remade for Tamil audiences
The horror genre is a tough one to get right, and not every producer has the nerve to make such a film. Actor and producer Anushka Sharma took a punt on a scary film with her recent release Pari, and it seems to have paid off very well. After impressing critics and audiences in Bollywood, the film is set for a remake in Tamil. Pari told the story of Rukhsana played by Anushka, who is possessed by an evil supernatural force inflicting pain on her. The audience got the hibbie jibbies with Anushka’s blood-shot eyes, battered body and eerie mannerisms. The actress was ably supported by a stellar cast including Parambrata Chatterjee, Rajat Kapoor and Mansi Multani. British Prosthetic Designer Clover Wootton was roped in to transform the ravishing Anushka into this horrifying avatar. The shocking look of the lead character along with superb cinematography and edge-of-the-seat drama, came together to make Pari one of the scariest films in recent times.
Pari has been Anushka’s third outing as a producer after the edgy thriller NH 10, and fantasy comedy Phillauri. She is certainly fond of unusual subjects and characters and is carving a niche as a film producer. After playing battered-victim-turned-avenger in NH 10, Anushka portrayed goofy and well-meaning ghost with unfinished business in Phillauri. But in Pari, the supernatural was anything but funny and the talented actress scared the socks off her audience. Anushka has gathered praise for her choice of unconventional subjects and gutsy roles. She is now ready to impress the Tamil audience with what is likely to be a big-budget remake of Pari. Recent horror films such as Balloon, Shivalinga, Dora and, Rum have been runaway hits at the box office and prove Tamil viewers have quite an appetite for this genre.
