Pataakha : A tale of two sisters

Pataakha : A tale of two sisters

Such a terrific film, this is first time ever any Bollywood director has given such a brave opening of the film. Which starts with an ugly fighting of two sisters. Vishal Bhardwaj is my all-time favourite director, who made distinct films. Pataakha is based on short story written by renowned writer Charan Singh PathikDo Behnein. Vishal Bhardwaj has written in very interesting manner. That doesn’t leave any loose point nor given more weightage to only one character. He has maintained a fare balance of both characters.

Story is about Champa (Radhika Madan) is the older sister — as reflected by her nickname Badki. And then there’s Chutki (Sanya Malhotra) aka Genda aka Marigold, as her English-speaking husband calls her lovingly. While Badki is a tempestuous simpleton who is happy with her beedis, gets along more with cows than humans and aspires to own a dairy one day, Champa is a dreamer, and wants to be a teacher. They live with their father (played by the ever-brilliant Vijay Raaz) in a village in Rajasthan and their lives are driven by a tooth-and-nail sibling rivalry and one-up-(wo)man-ship. This is hilarious comedy, both sisters are made for each other in short. Bhardwaj has beautifully crafted the beauty of two siblings whose lives are totally depended upon their own activities though they differ from each other and not willing to see each other. Film shows proper rustic ness during the entire film. A very small hamlet where two sisters live.

Hats off to Radhika Madan for her deglam look in the film, very rarely any actress choses to be deglam in debutante film. Her performance in the film is mind blowing. Sanya Malhotra also excels in her performance. Each character in the film has done their best. Pataakha is worth to watch. Get new experience as Bhardwaj has changed trend this time.
