Film maker Shonali Bose wanted to make a movie with Fawad Khan:
Fawad Khan was absolutely ravishing, whether it is his profile or his acting. He hailed from Pakistan, and was sent back along with other Pakistani artists, which was of course a very debatable move. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was also one of the other stars who were missed. The nation was angered with this movement as entertainment and film industry has nothing to do with terrorism, and it if unfair that we have treated artists with such callousness and insensitivity.
The National award winning film maker Shonali Bose, apparently wanted to make a movie with Fawad, but she failed to, because he was sent back. She lashed out on Tuesday when she was the part of a panel discussion at the Ficci Frames. She was alongside the veteran film maker Shyam Benegal when she made her statement on “controlling creativity- is censorship relevant”. When asked in details about the role of the censorship board, she replied that instead of protecting women and showing them under the right light, the censorship board is plainly involved in curbing the creativity of the directors. She said in an argument, “ Cinema should be free, for instance Pakistani actors are not allowed to work in Indian films, and this decision is supported by the Indian Motion Pictures Association, what if I want to make a film with Fawad Khan?”
She was reminded by the moderator, that she might be labeled as an antinational. To that she replied that is the problem that has taken place. Friendship and harmony between the two nations is taken as antinationalism. She clearly reiterated that she would want to make a film with Fawad, and no one would back the project because of the risks. This tension had risen in 2016, when the border problems made the Pak stars go back to their lands. This problem resurfaced when Babul Supriyo put forward a statement saying that there should be a ban on the available songs that have been released on the past by Pak singers. Hasn’t this gone way too much? How are terrorism and entertainment even remotely related? Well it is for the nation to decide.
