Keeping stars directly connected with their audience, social media tools are great platforms for Bollywood celebrities to interact with their fans. And the latest the join the Instagram bandwagon is superstar Aamir Khan who recently created his account on the photo-sharing site. The news of Aamir’s debut created a mini-riot on the internet, as his account was instantly followed by more than 250k fans and counting. The occasion of his debut was indeed special as Aamir joined Instagram on the occasion of his 53rd birthday.

The Bollywood superstar, also called Mr. Perfectionist, has amassed a huge following across the globe in countries like China, Taiwan, Russia, and Turkey. Aamir’s last few films Dangal, PK and 3 Idiots have raked in millions in international markets and won him a cult following among film audiences. His debut on Instagram is perhaps an attempt for the international superstar to reach out to his burgeoning international fan base.

Aamir’s fans were waiting with bated breath for his first post and they were pleasantly surprised to a see a special woman featured on his Instagram feed. Doting son Aamir decided to dedicate his maiden post to his mother Zeenat Hussain with her vintage black and white picture and the caption, “The person because of whom I am who I am.” Fans were also intrigued to notice that Aamir’s profile picture features his look for the upcoming film Thugs of Hindostan.

Aamir Khan has taken his time to join the social media brigade while other superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have been a part of the Instagram family for a much longer time. Shah Rukh is known to have witty exchanges with his fans on Instagram and Twitter while Salman lets his pictures do the talking. Leading ladies Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone also regularly post pictures on Instagram for a loyal following running into millions.
