Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety, an Unexpected Box Office Hit!
Maybe it’s the quirky title or the unusual plot or the appeal of its young cast, Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety (SKTKS) has charmed audiences to turn into the sleeper hit of the year. Within just four days of its release, the film has earned a phenomenal Rs 31.74 Crore at the box office. SKTKS has marched ahead of its competition, Welcome to New York, which hit the screens on the same day. Even a stellar cast of A-listers including Sonakshi Sinha and Diljit Dosanjh couldn’t hold a candle to the magic of SKTKS.
After the roaring success of Pyar ka Panchnama 1 & 2, director Luv Ranjan and cast members Nushrat Bharucha, Kartik Aryan and Sunny Singh have scored a hat trick with SKTKS. The comic caper is a funny take on the bromance and romance and revolves around two childhood friends and their love interest. A series of comical twists and the delightful supporting cast including Alok Nath, Ayesha Raza and Virendra Saxena keep the audience’s funny bone tickling right till the end.
SKTKS has struck a chord with young viewers and family audiences alike and is the third biggest opening weekend film after Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat and Akshay Kumar’s Padman. While Padmaavat and Padman were big budget and A-list star cast films, SKTKS has got the audiences’ vote for its entertaining plot and storyline. The film is being lapped up by overseas audiences too and earned $252,000 in Canada, $ 206,000 in UAE and $ 100,000 in Pakistan over the opening weekend.
The film will now have to compete with Anushka Sharma’s upcoming horror filmi Pari and another romantic comedy Veerey Ki Wedding starring Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda, both of which will hit the silver screen this Friday. Going by its popularity, SKTKS looks unstoppable over the Holi weekend too.
