Soorma movie review:

Soorma movie review:

The Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu starrer Soorma movie was released last Friday, and we have reasons to be proud. It is a comeback story of the great legend Sandeep Singh, and the movie talks of hockey, the lesser known sport of India. Shah Rukh had made Chak De India to promote hockey as a national sport, and this is yet another effort to give recognition to the hockey players yet once again. The viewers are shifted to the screens of 1994, as the scene shifts to Shahabad, the hockey capital of India. Every child in this town dreams to become a hockey player, as we see it.

The plot:

A very young Sandeep ( Diljit) is one of the dwellers, and he wears a dedication cape that wears off soon. Hockey quite takes a backseat in his life, until teenage, when he falls in love with Harpreet ( Taapsee), and things take a  different turn then on. The writer Shah Ali carves the character of his movie throughout the first half, but he fills it with the life of the people, and anecdotes. His attempt throughout was to keep it light. The film turns to an edge just before interval, and suspense starts there. Soorma is Diljit’s forte, through and through.

Taapsee is natural, she does her best, and her performance grows throughout the sequence. Sandeeps’s journey as a man who was passionate about hockey, a man who received an Arjuna Award, to the man who got shot accidentally is definitely one hell of a story that deserves to be told. Faith in hockey and pride for India will be restored if you watch this movie. It is an honest account, and will give you the check for reality. This film is recommended for all who are looking for a good time during the weekend.
