Bollywood set to welcome Archie and Friends

Gear up to welcome Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Moose and Jughead at a theatre near you. A memorable part of nearly everyone’s teenage years, these iconic comic characters are all set for a red carpet welcome to Bollywood. After inspiring the plots of many Bollywood flicks, Archie and his friends will now be part of their very own live-action Hindi film. Archie Comics will be teaming up with Graphic India to breathe life into every teenage Indian kid’s dream of watching a Bollywood film featuring the characters from Riverdale.

The film will be placing Archie Andrews and his friends in an Indian context and will reimagine them in a Bollywood setup. According to the makers of the film, it will retain all the classic elements of the comic book series with a dash of Bollywood masala. A whole generation of filmmakers in Bollywood has been inspired by Archie comics and has based their films on these ‘forever young’ characters. The characters of Karan Johar’s blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai were clearly based on the comic book series with Shah Rukh Khan playing Archie, Kajol essaying the role of Betty and Rani Mukherjee as the glamorous Veronica.

Archies comic characters have once been brought to life in the smash hit American series Riverdale streaming on Netflix. The series follows the life of Archie Andrews and his friends and explores the darkness that lurks behind their perfect lives. A twisted tale of murder, jealousy and dark secrets, Riverdale is a far cry from the footloose and fancy-free world portrayed in the comic series. The Indian makers of the Bollywood Archie film are not giving away much about the plot and its twists. Fans of the series are waiting to see if the desi adaptation will be a bubblegum college flick or a dark and delish thriller.
