Kartik Aaryan’s Rise to Stardom
Barely half a dozen films old, Kartik Aaryan is giving established Bollywood heroes a run for their money. The 27-year-old is basking in the success of his latest release Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety that has just entered the Rs 100 crore elite club. Starring other rank newcomers like Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh, the film is making waves at the box office and has been the sleeper hit of the year. Even as critics and trade pundits are still trying to wrap their heads around the success of the film, the emerging stardom of Kartik Aaryan is unmistakable.
The young and talented actor made his debut with Luv Ranjan’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama in 2011 and stood out in an ensemble cast of five other actors. Kartik was noticed for his sharp wit and comic timing and a lengthy monologue that went viral on social media. In fact, it was this monologue that landed Kartik his first Bollywood role. The story goes that as a young Bollywood aspirant, he often tracked social media platforms like Facebook for random casting calls and gave several auditions. Kartik noticed one such casting call posted by Pyar Ka Punchnama’s casting director Vicky Sedana on Facebook and immediately contacted him. Kartik shared his pictures with the film’s team and they liked him but somehow the trail went cold. It was only six months later that Kartik received a call for an audition, where he was asked to perform the monologue. The actor claims to have practised for 12 hours to perfect the piece and finally clinched the role. The rest, as they say, is history, and Kartik is still remembered for the long lover’s rant he performed in his debut film. After a few Bollywood duds, he teamed up with Luv Ranjan again for the successful sequel Pyar Ka Punchnama 2. The director-actor duo’s partnership has clicked yet again in the blockbuster Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety that is still running to packed houses.
